Jersey Acres Farms has been family owned since 1911. Located in Schuykill County, PA., it is a diversified farm operation consisting of a roadside market selling products from apples to watermelons, a winery doing business under the name of: STONE MOUNTAIN WINE CELLARS, and a 200 cow registered Jersey milking herd.
The memory of a 3rd generation Heffner begins with the herd at 12, it went to 15 when the bull pen was moved, and by the time the horses and chickens left, the herd stood at 25.
In the mid-60’s, the total rose to 52 with the construction of a new single story barn complete with a glass pipeline and 2 silos. Eventually the original 2 story barn was again reworked to hold an additional 40 cows with pipeline. Total then 92.
A clean sweep was needed for the next expansion, which was to move to a milking parlor and free stall housing. The result was a move to a new site and the construction of a completely new dairy facility. The parlor is a double 8, expandable to a double 12, with the free stall’s capacity currently at 150.
